When is the Best Time to Renovate Your Business?

You’ve been considering the renovation of your business for quite a while; new trends that are increasing productivity and workforce satisfaction will be beneficial to what you do. The challenge is going to be finding an answer to this all-important question:

When is the best time for your renovation?

Here are some things to consider:

  • Business flow. Depending on the type of business you own, some times of the year will be far more busy than others, and it just makes sense to plan your renovation for a time when it will have the least amount of impact on your business.

  • Workforce plans. You may ask your employees to request vacation time pretty far in advance so that the needs of your business will be covered. Will there be a period of time in the upcoming year when you have several key people out of the office? Perhaps some of your workforce travels for business fairly often; these travel plans could also open up windows of opportunity for you to start, and finish, your renovation plans.

  • Weather. If part of your renovation plans will include exterior work, such as paint, siding, roofing, or adding outdoor space, you will want to take the weather into account. An exterior project undertaken during periods of cold or rainy weather will probably mean that the whole endeavor will take a lot longer than it otherwise could, and that could cost you in lost business or in damages to your premises.

  • Renovation companies. Do some research to see when construction companies are busiest; this could mean delays and possibly higher prices, both of which you will want to avoid.

  • Employee viewpoint. It may be that your employees are okay with working around a renovation project. Conduct a workforce poll to see what they think - if the renovations are going to make their working lives easier and more comfortable, they may very well find the whole plan exciting! If they are willing to be flexible with all that you have in mind, you won’t have to be as concerned with the time of year that you execute your plans. This could save you both time and money in the long run, and that’s good for everyone.
