NOI’s Work From Home Tips For 2021

Many of us will be working from home into the foreseeable future; this practice has turned out to be a positive step for lots of businesses, in addition to being a safety consideration. Business owners have been pleasantly surprised at the positive effect it has had on productivity, retention, and keeping workers healthy, so why not continue? If you are one of those business owners who is considering this move or has already decided to go for it, we’ve got some information for you today that might be helpful. Here are NOI’s work from home tips for 2021:

The Work Spot

The very first step on your work from home journey is to make one spot in your home your “work spot.” This is a place set aside for getting work stuff done. It could be an empty room or spare bedroom if you have the space, and you can just convert that into your office. Your desk and office supplies will fit in there perfectly. Just make sure it’s the quietest spot you can find, to eliminate distractions.

The Work Tools

Putting together your home office will require a small investment, just as if you were setting up in a brick and mortar space. You will need the proper technology, such as a PC, laptop, and phone system, to get your work done. Purchase a high-performance router so that you can avoid tech hassles; you need a router that can keep up with everything you are doing, and if it’s an older model it may experience network challenges.

The Work Furniture

You will probably need to invest in some office furniture, as well. There are so many styles and brands to choose from these days that you should not have trouble finding the items that will be perfect for your unique setup, in the colors you want, at the price point you can afford. Ergonomics is a huge consideration, too, so try to get to a showroom and test out chairs and desk height, for example. You may love looking at your new purchases, but you will want to love using them, too. Every single day.

The Work Distractions

Digital distractions - as well as the homey kind, like pets and kids - can be a problem, so you’ll want to come up with creative solutions for these challenges before they end up causing serious issues. If you are okay with background noise, like television, music, or gaming systems, that’s great, but be honest with yourself about this. If noise is going to be a problem, get a headset before you get to work. Have a talk with your family about these issues ahead of time so everyone is on the same page.

The Work/Life Balance

Working at home is a great way to boost your productivity, and everyone likes that aspect. You have to be aware, though, that sometimes a remote worker can find him or herself over-committing, and that will be counterproductive in the long run. Taking good care of yourself and allowing yourself downtime during your days, such as lunches (away from your desk!), breaks, and short trips outdoors to get away from your projects, is going to help you maintain a positive work/life balance in the day-to-day. Research has proven that taking short breaks increases creativity and productivity, so schedule these into your day just as you would in a traditional office environment.
